Happy 20th birthday to me

Well,my 20th birthday was celebrated by searching penang hawker food in georgetown.

Kafe  Heng Huat

One has to admit that there are some people who would tolerate long waits, rude/brusque hawkers and sometime deplorable dining conditions (by the drains, etc) for good food. And thus these hawkers still thrive despite the notoriety.CKT is served for RM8 and comes with three big prawns. You will see a lady cooking using charcoal stove every time you pass by Lorong Selamat. The same coffee shops serves good ais kacang, rojak, oh chien and other delicacies as well. But mainly the whole shop is crowded with ckt lovers that came all the way to try this little masterpiece.

Address: 82, Lorong Selamat, 10400 Pulau Pinang. (On the lane opposite Sin Chew Jit Poh Building)
Opening hours: 1:00pm – 6:00pm (Closed on Tuesdays)

Penang Road Famous Teowchew Chendul

Speaking of cendol, the Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul (槟榔律驰名潮州煎蕊) is the most popular stall in Penang - by far. Although Teochew Chendul has extended its reach throughout Penang and Klang Valley, the original stall at Lebuh Keng Kwee is still the most bustling spot. Even during weekdays, throngs of curious tourists can be seen crowding around the stall.

While some customers prefer to enjoy the desserts while standing, Teochew Chendul also provides a proper shop for those who prefer to rest their legs while dining. The green awnings proudly announce its association with the famous stall several yards away.

Tracing its roots in 1936, the Tan family has been running the business for several decades now. The founder has already passed on, and the business has since been managed by his three sons.

Quite a number of celebrities have patronized Teochew Chendul, including Gurmit Singh (Singaporean actor who plays Phua Chu Kang), Jimmy Choo (Malaysian London-based fashion shoe designer), Leung Man-To (梁文韬, Hong Kong celebrity chef and food critic) etc just to name a few.

The signature dish is obviously the Chendul (RM2.10). For those unfamiliar with local delicacies, this cold dessert is made from shaved ice mixed with coconut milk, gula melaka (palm sugar), red beans, and most importantly jelly noodles. The jelly noodles are made from rice flour and colored with pandan leaf extract. Some stalls may include more ingredients such as grass jelly or glutinous rice, but this is not the case with Teochew Chendul.

The jelly noodles are firm and springy. They are usually not chewed but swallowed in whole. The red beans are starchy and slightly soft, and is able to contribute some sweetness in its own right. The Chendul is a refreshing dessert especially after a hot day in Penang. However, its high sugar content does not make it an effective thirst-quencher.

Off Penang Road, on Lebuh Keng Kwee. There are 2 stalls; it is the one adjoining Joo Hooi Restaurant.

After finishing my actuarial science first year in national university Malaysia ,penang ! i'm back.I've decided to pay a visit at my lovely island with my cousin Marcus who has also came back from Kansas,US.
Our first station is....

The Mugshot Café

An interesting café that has something exciting (having your mug shot taken without being arrested) to offer is known as The Mugshot Café in Penang. Housing not only some awesome homemade food and beverages that are fine in quality, this café is famous for its recycled furniture. Being an environmentally friendly café that supports recycled products, the café is furnished with exotic fittings and fixtures, making it a great photography spot for many. Yummy delicacies are also what make customers feel the value for money.
Address: 302, Chulia Street 10200 George Town, Malaysia.
Phone: 012-4056276
Operating Hours: 8.00am – 9.00pm (Daily)
I've ordered a cup of  mango & walnut yogurt ( $10 ) while Marcus ordered a cup of Cappuccino ($10).

Although i'm not a coffee person to begin with, but i think their cappuccino is great .And i would prefer Jack fruit  with Gula Melaka yogurt than mango & walnut yogurt as it's taste a little bit sour for me lol.

Here's Marcus and me .
Charge : too good in football & i dream of Penang food .
Well, this is a MUST-DO thing after all the catching up in the mugshot cafe.

p/s: It certainly can't be frequent patronized as the pricing was quite steep for students.

The next station ....
